The Dubai Frame was designed by award-winning architect Fernando Donis, who won an international competition to design the structure. Donis envisioned the frame as a link between the past and the present, with one half of the frame representing old Dubai and the other half representing new Dubai. The frame's design features a golden exterior that reflects the sun's rays, a nod to Dubai's status as the "City of Gold." The structure's two towers are connected by a 100-square-meter bridge, which features a 25-square-meter glass panel in the middle, offering breathtaking views of the city.
Construction of the Dubai Frame began in 2013 and took four years to complete. The structure is made up of over 9,900 tons of steel and features a unique diagonal bracing system that provides structural stability. The frame's exterior is covered in a layer of 24-carat gold, which required over 15,000 square meters of gold leaf to cover. The glass panel in the bridge was also specially made, with the ability to withstand extreme weather conditions.
The Dubai Frame is not just a beautiful structure but also a sustainable one. The frame features solar panels that provide energy to power the building's lights and water pumps. The frame also features a rainwater harvesting system, which collects and stores rainwater for use in the building's irrigation system.
